Enlighten Up!

After an absolutely exhausting day this will be short and sweet before my pandora logs off. Enlighten Up! is about a fairly young journalist named Nick who is travelling around the world discovering what Yoga really is and how it impacts him. He travels with  documentary-maker Kate. They start in New York and work their way to California, Hawaii, and eventually India. Nick's parents are divorced and practically opposites. His dad is a lawyer and his mom is a total hippie, and he's not religious or spiritual whatsoever and rather materialistic. Most of the United States Yoga centers were full of...odd people. They were not impacting Nick at all, but i must say I was very impressed and slightly jealous of how ridiculously flexible they all were.
That's ludicrous. I mean seriously, who has enough time in there day to think, "Hey I think I'll learn how to grab my foot in the most complicated way I can possibly think of," Yes I'm sure that has a lot of practical life applications... I get the physical aspect of it, but Kate was pushing hard on Nick to accept the spiritual aspect of it, when he's just not a spiritual guy. Kate is supposed to be a 3rd person aspect too, so her telling Nick what he's supposed to be feeling not only messes with the results of the experiment but ultimately I think it's unprofessional. After five months from family and friends and only yoga, Nick has to beg Kate just to give him one night off from her omnipotent camera   just to go on a simple date. Kate is a bit obsessed with the project. And at the end of it Nick even says that he doesn't feel much different except for only one yoga experiment when he was meditating for so long that he fell asleep and woke up missing his mom. So, he felt that he wanted to be closer with his family and he wanted to be happier because of a long speech and Yogi in India gave him. he ended up moving to Colorado and made a documentary on rock climbing... I have no idea what that has to do with the plot and Kate ended it talking about herself.

Hmm, well not my favorite. But I learned some moves myself! I can actually do a pretty decent headstand now but I have to say of all the yoga places they showed my favorite was one in India where all they did was laugh. Literally they just stood there and laughed for and hour with very basic yoga moves and they called it spiritual because retouching childish behavior gave them a young spirit. I thought that was pretty to think about.

No blog next week, because of the holidays so probably start blogging again January 10thish. So goodbye for now and Happy Holidays!

This Thursday

Enlighten up!
A story about taking a cynical man and making him into a "yogi" or a yoga lover. It's an analogy for how different the materialistic world is from the spiritual world and finding the bridge between the two to enjoy both. Okay, there's my deep moment. Now, here's the vapid, yoga looks hard.

Life in a Day

This was by far my favorite documentary yet. If I could recommend anything it would definitely be this. It's all about people from across the globe's day. July 24 2010. It was eventful for some, but no world history was made. Just an ordinary day except people from 192 countries recorded their day spanning from 10+ people living in a house that we would consider a tool shed to a man driving his Lamborghini to work. It was honestly really eye opening to how most of the world lives there life. And as ridiculously cheesy and stupid I sound, it was really beautiful and such a good demonstration of how with the right attitude you can spend everyday joyfully. Being a touch cynical however, there were three scenes that I hated.
1. They showed a cow getting shot in the head. As from Food Inc. I love my cows, I especially love the way they taste. I just really really hate the process of them getting to my plate.
2. Almost showing them slit a goat's throat. I'm pretty sure I scared my dog with how fast I threw my hands up to my eyes so to be honest I don't really know if they actually slit it's throat or not.
3. This really annoying stereotypical American girl that just ranted about how her day was ordinary and how she was sad about it. Hmm well give me a second as I describe according to me as to the degree that this girl really ticks me off. First of all, heart shaped hooped earrings to me have already screamed moody facebook status poster. Secondly, she's complaining about how her life is "sooooo normal" well missy there are hundreds of millions of people living on earth today that would kill to have a car, clean clothes, food everyday, and the multitude of other common luxuries that I can be almost positive that she takes for granted. Yet, she has the audacity to say that her life is just not good enough as it is.
And lastly, what probably got me the most is that she vented to the poor people of youtube that she was "waiting for something to happen" in her everyday life. Waiting for someone to take the reins and make her life interesting for her. Well hate to break it to you, but if you want something new to happen to you you have to make the change yourself. I believe that God does intervene at pinnacle, life changing moments to 'take the reins' and shake things up. But for your ordinary day God gave us free will to change things up for ourselves.  I will give you three things off the top of my head in twenty seconds to change up little Miss. Complain's life
1.Join or participate in a charity
2.Try talking to a person you don't usually talk to
3. Go somewhere at least an hour away and just go to a restaurant or club or something that's brand new
YOU CANNOT JUST WAIT FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN, YOU HAVE TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

Okay, I'm off of my preaching pedestal now. Besides that horribly last five minutes of the film, the rest is genius and eye opening. If you have a Netflix or I have convinced you to get one by now please watch it, it's a fantastic thing to have in floating around in your brain.

As for me, I saw the musical Les Miserables last night and I have been wearing the t-shirt and listening to the album all day! It was absolutely wonderful, beautiful, and awesome. I have said this before and I will say it again, Netflix. Netflix has the 1998 Liam Neeson version on DVD order and you should get it. Just saying. And I am counting the days down to see the Hugh Jackman version!! AHH! It comes out on Christmas!
Until next week!
